Our Fleet & Network
Logistics Capabilities
Reliable pallet delivery requires more than a warehouse full of inventory. It requires a logistics operation built for speed, flexibility, and nationwide reach. Universal Pallet Supply combines our own fleet of trucks with a vetted network of freight carriers to deliver pallets on time, every time.
Our Own Fleet
Our company-owned trucks operate daily delivery routes throughout the Mid-Atlantic corridor, covering Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, and the greater D.C. metro area. Having our own fleet means we control the quality of service from loading dock to delivery dock — no third-party handoffs, no miscommunication, and no surprise surcharges. Our drivers are trained in safe pallet handling and stacking, and they know the difference between Grade A and Grade B. For our home region, we offer same-day and next-day delivery on most in-stock products.
- Flatbed and box trucks for flexible load configurations
- Same-day and next-day delivery in the Mid-Atlantic
- Trained drivers who verify pallet quality at delivery
- Reverse logistics — pickup surplus pallets on the return trip
Carrier Network
For deliveries beyond our fleet's direct reach, we work with a curated network of freight carriers that we have vetted for reliability, pricing, and service quality. These are not random brokers — they are long-term logistics partners who understand the specific requirements of shipping pallets, including proper load securement, stacking limits, and delivery window compliance. We negotiate volume rates with our carriers and pass those savings directly to our customers, making long-distance pallet delivery surprisingly affordable even for smaller orders.
- Vetted carrier partners across all 48 contiguous states
- Volume-negotiated rates passed through to customers
- Real-time shipment tracking on all carrier loads
- Insurance and liability coverage on every shipment
Shipping Methods
Shipping Options Explained
We offer multiple shipping methods to match your budget, timeline, and volume. Here is how each option works and when it makes the most sense for your business.
Full Truckload
The most cost-effective option for large orders. A full truckload carries approximately 400 to 500 standard 48x40 pallets stacked and banded. FTL shipments go directly from our facility to your location with no stops, resulting in the fastest transit times and lowest per-pallet shipping cost. Best for orders of 400+ pallets or recurring high-volume deliveries.
Best for: 400+ pallets, recurring orders, lowest per-unit cost
Less-Than-Truckload
Ideal for smaller orders that do not fill an entire trailer. LTL shipments share truck space with other freight, keeping costs low for orders of 50 to 300 pallets. Transit times are slightly longer than FTL because the truck may make multiple stops, but pricing is significantly lower for smaller quantities. We palletize and band all LTL shipments for safe handling during transit.
Best for: 50 to 300 pallets, budget-conscious orders, first-time buyers
Flatbed Trailer
Flatbed trailers are the preferred method for delivering pallets because they allow easy side-loading with a forklift at the delivery site. Unlike enclosed trailers, flatbeds do not require a loading dock — the driver can unload at ground level anywhere there is forklift access. This makes flatbed delivery ideal for construction sites, outdoor yards, and facilities without standard dock doors.
Best for: Jobsites, facilities without docks, large or oversized pallets
Dedicated Routes
For customers with recurring weekly or biweekly delivery needs, we set up dedicated routes with guaranteed capacity and consistent delivery windows. Dedicated routes lock in your pricing, eliminate scheduling uncertainty, and ensure your pallet supply never runs dry. Route drivers become familiar with your facility, your receiving procedures, and your team, creating a seamless delivery experience.
Best for: Recurring orders, guaranteed capacity, long-term supply agreements
Transparent Pricing
Regional Pricing Factors
Pallet pricing varies by region based on several key factors. Understanding these factors helps you plan your budget and identify opportunities to reduce costs. We are always transparent about what drives your pricing.
Distance from Portsmouth, VA
Our primary facility is located at 610 Brumby Ave, Portsmouth, VA 23709. Delivery costs are lowest for locations within our direct fleet range (Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, D.C.) and increase gradually with distance. For locations west of the Mississippi, full truckload orders offer the best per-pallet economics due to freight efficiencies.
Order Volume
Larger orders mean lower per-pallet pricing. A full truckload of 400+ pallets ships at a significantly lower cost per unit than an LTL shipment of 50 pallets. We offer volume-tiered pricing with breakpoints at 100, 250, 500, and 1,000+ pallets per order. Recurring orders qualify for additional discounts regardless of individual order size.
Pallet Grade & Type
Grade A pallets cost more than Grade B, and Grade B costs more than Grade C. Heat-treated pallets carry a modest premium over standard. Custom-sized pallets are priced based on lumber requirements and construction complexity. New pallets are the highest cost; recycled pallets of the same grade offer 30 to 60 percent savings.
Seasonal Demand
Pallet demand peaks during Q4 (holiday shipping season) and during late summer (harvest season for agriculture). While we do not impose surge pricing, availability of specific grades may tighten during peak periods. Customers with recurring supply agreements receive guaranteed pricing and priority allocation regardless of season.
Lumber Market Conditions
The price of new lumber fluctuates based on supply and demand, tariffs, and weather events. These fluctuations directly affect the cost of new pallets and, to a lesser extent, the cost of recycled and repaired pallets. One advantage of recycled pallets is price stability — they are less sensitive to lumber market swings than new pallets.
Delivery Accessibility
Urban locations with loading docks typically have lower delivery costs than rural or hard-to-access sites. Deliveries requiring liftgate service, crane unloading, or special scheduling (early morning, weekend) may carry modest surcharges. We always quote delivery costs upfront so there are no surprises on your invoice.

Strategic Advantage
Why Location Matters for Pallet Supply
Portsmouth, Virginia is not just where we happen to be — it is a strategic choice that directly benefits our customers. Situated at the heart of the Mid-Atlantic corridor, our facility at 610 Brumby Ave sits within one of the most logistics-dense regions in the country, giving us advantages in speed, cost, and reach that inland suppliers simply cannot match.
The Hampton Roads region is home to the Port of Virginia — the third-largest port complex on the East Coast — along with major military installations, manufacturing hubs, and distribution centers. This concentration of logistics activity means we have access to a steady supply of recyclable pallets, a deep pool of experienced freight carriers, and extremely competitive shipping rates along the I-64, I-95, and I-85 corridors.
East Coast Speed
From our Portsmouth location, we can reach 60% of the US population within 2-3 business days by ground. The entire Eastern Seaboard — from Maine to Florida — is within our cost-effective delivery zone. Our own fleet handles same-day and next-day deliveries across Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and the D.C. metro, while our carrier network extends that reach nationwide.
Recycled Pallet Supply Pipeline
The Hampton Roads region generates a massive volume of used pallets from its port operations, military logistics, and distribution centers. This gives us a consistent, high-quality supply of recyclable pallet stock, which translates to better pricing and inventory availability for our customers. Unlike suppliers in less active regions, we rarely face supply shortages.
Export-Ready Infrastructure
Proximity to the Port of Virginia means our ISPM-15 heat-treated pallets can reach export terminals quickly and affordably. For businesses shipping internationally through East Coast ports, our location eliminates the extra transit time and cost of sourcing certified pallets from inland facilities.
Delivery Programs

Beyond standard shipping, we offer specialized delivery programs designed to keep your operations running smoothly. Whether you need predictable scheduled deliveries, just-in-time precision, or emergency rush service, we have a program built for your needs.
Recurring Scheduled Deliveries

Your pallets arrive on the same day, at the same time, in the same quantity, without you having to place a new order each cycle. Delivery schedules are fully adjustable with 48 hours notice if your needs change.
- Fixed schedule, fixed pricing
- Adjustable with 48-hour notice
- No reordering required
Just-In-Time (JIT) Programs
For manufacturers and distributors who operate on lean inventory principles, our JIT program delivers pallets precisely when your production line or shipping dock needs them — not before, not after. Emergency Rush Delivery
When your regular supplier falls through or an unexpected order spike hits, we can mobilize fast.
